Women’s Ministry

The Women's Ministry seek to uphold the vision of DSC by encouraging women to embrace living life for the glory of God. Our aim is to help them live in such a way that pleasing and honoring God drives all of their thinking, all of their affections, and all of their will (John 4:34; 2 Corinthians. 5:9; 2 Corinthians. 5:14-15; 1 Corinthians. 10:31).

Women’s Summer book Studies

It’s that time again! We are gearing up for our Summer Book Studies and we would love for you to join us!

Each group will meet at various times throughout the summer and in different locations around the city. Group sizes will be limited so register soon and save your spot. Please note that at this time we will not be able to offer childcare.

All you need to do is scroll through the list of books below, see what dates and times work best for you, and then choose your group! After you register, your group leader will contact you with more information.

Conscience: What It Is, How to Train It, and Loving Those Who Differ

Scripture memory can be challenging and many of us claim that we just cannot do it. But we memorize a variety of things every day—songs, names, directions, recipes, lines from movies and TV shows, you name it!

All it takes is a little time and discipline. You can do it! And you should!

There are a variety of means and methods. It can take a little while to find the one that best suits you. Just pick one and try it for a while. If that method doesn’t work for you, pick another one. The time will not be wasted.

The most common method is reading and reciting. Start with a verse (or phrase if the verse is long) and read it out loud 10 times. Then cover it and try to say it (again out loud) without looking. If you can, write it out several times. When you have that verse (or part of the verse) memorized, move onto the next one. Every day recite the piece you've already memorized before practicing the new piece. Try to do this several times a day.

For example, if you are working on John 1, start by reciting all of the verses you have already committed to memory and then start working on the new verse. Do this several times every day and just keep adding as you go. Sometimes the new verse will be set in one or two days. Sometimes it takes a week or even longer. That is okay! Don't rush it and don’t move on until you are sure you really have the current piece solidly in your memory.

Keep note cards handy so you can look at them throughout the day. You can also print out the passage or just look it up in your Bible. Make sure that whatever you are using, it is readily available for whenever you have a few minutes to practice.

When you have an entire passage memorized, practice every single day for at least a month. From there, you can move to once a week.

Just keep in mind...it is not a race!

Here are some other tools and ideas we have found to be helpful:

APPS
The benefit to these apps is that they have games that can help you with tricky verses. They are great for when you are just getting started or when you've been doing it for a while and get stuck.

HABIT STACKING
Work on memorizing while you are doing other routine habits.

In the Shower - Print out the passage you are memorizing and place it in a plastic baggie. Tape it to your shower wall (make sure the opening is pointing down just in case it isn't well sealed!) and practice while you shower.

Prep Time - Write your verses and stick them on your mirror. Practice while you brush your teeth, wash your face, put on makeup, whatever! Or stick them on your cabinets and practice while making dinner.

FUN IDEAS

First Letter Method – Write the first letter of every word in your current verse to help jog your memory. "For God so loved the world..." would become FGSLTW. Write it on cards, notebooks, or on yourself! We’ve also seen them written on large ribbons or rubber bands, and worn on people's wrists! You can also buy temporary tattoos if you want to be fancy. Dwell is a good place to shop.

Sing – Set your verses to music. Or if you aren't musical, some artists have songs that are only the words of Scripture. Some places to look - Seeds Family Worship, Poor Bishop Hooper, and DSC’s Psalterium albums.
